History
Sam's passion for events began at an early age when he worked alongside his father, a flower shop owner. This early exposure to the world of design and events continued through high school and college, where he collaborated with his father creating memorable client experiences. Pursuing his academic interests, Sam studied Plant Science with a concentration in Ornamental Horticulture at the University of Delaware, thinking he was eventually going to take over the family business. However, fate had other plans when he embarked on a life-changing internship at the Walt Disney World Resort. The experience ignited his passion for creating magical memories and bringing joy to people's faces. Sam went on to build a successful career at Disney, producing and designing Special Events and eventually becoming the Area Manager of the renowned Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival.
With a desire to innovate and explore new horizons, Sam formed his own company, Creative Event Solutions in 1999. He partnered with the Orlando Citrus Parade, introducing the new concept of "citrus floats." These floats, adorned with grapefruit, oranges, and tangerines, became a highlight of the parade. Sam collaborated with float sponsors to create unique and captivating interpretations of their marketing goals. Additionally, he lent his expertise to the National Parks Board of Singapore, contributing ideas, concepts, and experience to the development of the Singapore Garden Festival—an international celebration of tropical horticulture and floral artistry.
In 2003, Sam joined the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS), initially as the Director of Design for the renowned Philadelphia Flower Show, a cherished tradition since 1829 that covers more than 10 acres and attracts over 250,000 annual visitors at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. Through his effectiveness as a leader and innovator, he rose to the position of Chief of Show and Events, overseeing the development and production of all PHS’s signature events. Sam's team orchestrated the efforts of thousands of volunteers, as well as numerous designers, event experts and specialists, creating unforgettable experiences for all who attended each year. One of his most defining moments came in 2020 when the pandemic forced the closure of all indoor events. Understanding the importance of the Flower Show to the public and its financial impact to the non-profit PHS, Sam’s team successfully led the pivot of the Flower Show to an outdoor location for the first time in its almost 200-year history, ensuring the continuation of this beloved tradition.
